Vancouver World Cup 2026: A Canadian’s Honest Guide to the City
Vancouver is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup — and if you’re visiting, this is your local guide to making the most of the city between matches. Skip the tourist traps. Here’s what locals actually do.
Local tip
We’ve lived here our whole lives. We know where the lineups are, where they’re not, and what actually makes Vancouver special beyond the postcard shots. The Vancouver World Cup 2026 is bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors — and most will only see the obvious stuff. You can do better. This guide is everything we tell our guests before they arrive.
The best stops in Vancouver for World Cup 2026 visitors
1
Stanley Park — but do it right
Everyone goes to Stanley Park. Few people walk the full seawall at sunrise before the crowds hit. That’s the version worth waking up early for. On a clear morning you get the mountains, the ocean, and almost no one else.
Go before 8am
2
Capilano Suspension Bridge
Yes, it’s touristy. Yes, it’s still worth it — especially in the afternoon light when the rainforest gets that misty glow. The Cliffwalk section is genuinely dramatic. Don’t skip it just because it’s popular.
Afternoon light is best
3
Granville Island Public Market
This is our actual Saturday morning. Fresh salmon, local cheese, BC berries in season. Skip the souvenir shops and go straight to the food vendors. Grab a coffee from one of the independent roasters inside.

4
Grouse Mountain
The gondola ride up is the experience — the view of the city and ocean from the top is the kind of thing people come back to Vancouver for. If you’re here in summer, the grizzly bears at the refuge are genuinely special.
Clear days only — check weather
5
Gastown
The steam clock is fine. What’s actually great is the neighbourhood around it — independent restaurants, local designers, a real neighbourhood feel. Walk down Water Street and then cut through the side streets.

What locals know about Vancouver in 2026
Weather
June and July are genuinely beautiful. Bring one light layer — evenings cool down fast near the water.
Getting around
The SkyTrain is fast and clean. Uber works everywhere. During the Vancouver World Cup 2026, traffic downtown will be unpredictable — plan extra time.
Food
Vancouver has some of the best Asian food outside Asia. Sushi, dim sum, ramen — go where locals eat, not where tourists are pointed.
Timing
Book outdoor attractions early — Capilano and Grouse will sell out on busy World Cup match days. Check the Tourism Vancouver site for event schedules.
Currency
Everything is in Canadian dollars. Cards are accepted everywhere — you rarely need cash.
Safety
Downtown is safe. Stay aware around the DTES area — it’s a different neighbourhood with a different reality.
